Nokia C7, second Symbian3 smartphone, hits Thai market

Together with the device launch, Nokia also announced the grand opening of Nokia Experience Studio and introduced new applications from Nation Group and Sanook! to meet consumer needs for news and information on the go.

Nation Multimedia Group joins hand with Nokia (Thailand) in the launch of Nokia C7,Nokia smartphone run by Symbian 3, by offer news app for users. The move is strategy of The Nation to transform its news provision from mainly printed and online version to offer readers news across device and platforms, said Chutintra Wattanakul, New Media Develpment director at Nation Broadcasting Corporation.

She added that The  Nation is now leading the new way people consume news and it is the first news firm jumped into social media and
make news available in smartphone.

“Today is our commitment to be news leader to make news to be reach our potential readers on all devices,” said Chutintra.

Under the collaboration, The Nation will provide news from its three main newspaper included The Nation’s English news, Bangkokbiznews and Kom Chad Luek for free of charge.

“We are working as the real partners that The Nation provide news for free but we have ads on the page,” said Chutintra.

The Nation’s news app will be on Nokia’s Ovi store and available there for all Nokia smartphone.

Meanwhile, Shumit Kapoor, Nokia (Thailand)’s general manager said that The Nation and Sanook.com are two main local content partners that offer local content for Nokia users in Thailand.

He added that Nokia will be key vendor to drive smartphone market to be around 30 per cent of total mobile phone market in 2011. It is increased from 18 per cent of this year mobile phone market.

“We will see a lot of the growth of smartphone will come from Nokia. Nokia is really large share in smart phone market and we did not lose (market) share. Nokia is market leader in smartphone,” said Kapoor.

He added that Smartphone will be over 50per cent of total mobile phone market in Thailand in 2012, said Kapoor.

Nokia C7 is it’s second Symbian 3 smartphone launched following E8 . There are two more Symbian 3 smartphone included Nokia C6-01 and E7 by the end of this year.

Apart from Symbian 3, Nokia plans to launch MeeGo smartphone in several form factors and designs in Thailand sometime next year. Thailand is among first countries to see MeeGo smartphone,” said Kapoor.

At Ovi store, there are thousands apps available most of them are free apps and game is the most popular apps. Currently, there are 2.7 million-downloads at Ovi store.

Among countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand has the highest numbers of downloads. It is because Nokia change the billing model from electronic payment to be operator billing since a few weeks ago.

Now,there are 175 million users using Nokia worldwide that might attract developers to create new chic and cool apps for Ovi store.

The retail price of the Nokia C7 is 13,950 baht available in 3 colors including Charcoal Black, Frosty Metal and Mahogany Brown.
